Pennine Orca SAC
Doune Bay (Knoydart)

The 4 day trip to Knoydart in August 1997 was a very good trip all round (except for the midges). For most the trip started with a leisurely drive up to Mallaig on the Friday, where we were to meet the boat on Saturday. For others it was a dash out of work and a drive up through the early night arriving at about midnight. Saturday morning saw some rain but this cleared up as the day wore on and by the afternoon it was quite pleasant. The boat arrived to collect us at about 1300Hrs and all the gear was loaded and the cars were parked up for the next 4 days. The trip to the accommodation takes about 20 Min by boat, and when you round the headland of the Knoydart peninsula you are greeted by Doune Bay. This is an ideal place to centre yourself for a variety of holiday activities. Some of the party after unloading of the boat was completed set of for an afternoon dive on a wall. Sunday saw the dawn of a beautiful day and a start from the jetty at 0900Hrs was called for the 2 Hour trip to Vikings Helmet a pinnacle dive just to the south of Rhum and to the west of Eigg.
